Simple File Lister is a useful free tool that will allow you to create lists of all files stored in a given folder – and its children subfolders - and save them in customizable text-based documents. The generated list can be stored as CSV or TSV files, which can then be easily imported in most spreadsheet viewers, such as Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice, Google Docs, and LibreOffice.
This intuitive free tool will save you the fuss of using screenshots to keep a list of your files and folders, while providing you with a text-based file whose data can then be exported to a spreadsheet application for further use. The program will create “simple lists” by default, containing just the name and extension of the file preceded by its full path. However, you can also produce “advanced lists” easily by checking the necessary fields among a list of nearly forty file attributes. Among these, you will find metadata specifically related to certain types of multimedia files, such as image, video, and audio files. Thus, you will be able to create a list of all your music files that may include the name of the artist, the album title, the bit rate, the year, and the duration, to name a few. Likewise, you can produce a list of names of your image files that also contains the camera model, the date the photographs were taken on, and the file dimensions.
Simple File Lister’s delimiter-separated files support a certain level of customization. Thus, you can define your own delimiters and text qualifiers, or add column headers to your files that will contain the names of the different file attributes listed.
